A win and a second place in the sixth round of the 2024 Extreme SuperCars Driven by Dunlop championship on Saturday, 27 July, were enough to give Arnold Neveling (Bobcat powered by Goscor Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO) the lead in the overall championship standings. The event, part of the National Extreme Festival, was held at the East London Grand Prix Circuit in front of one of the biggest crowds seen at the iconic circuit for many years.

Stuart White (Into Africa Racing / Sparco / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan) was the early pacesetter in Friday’s practice sessions and carried that form into the qualifying session on Saturday morning. Neveling joined him on the front row. Silvio Scribante, out in his Scuderia Scribante / Cemza Lamborghini Huracan for the first time since the Kyalami round back in April, headed the second row of the grid ahead of GT3 class championship leader Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO). Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Racing / Sparco / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan) and Aldo Scribante (Scuderia Scribante / WCT Auctions Lamborghini Huracan) filled the third row of the grid just ahead of Class A competitor Charl Arangies out in his newly acquired Stradale Motorsport Porsche 911.

White and Neveling rapidly pulled away from the rest of the field in the opening heat, with White slowly able to open up a gap at the front. Once the gap was there, White could control the pace, taking the win by just under four seconds. Silvio Scribante came home in third ahead of GT3 class winner du Toit. A last-lap overtake gave Aldo Scribante fifth place ahead of Letlaka and Class A winner Arangies.

Race 2 looked like it was heading in the same direction, with White having an advantage over Neveling and both comfortably ahead of the chasing pack. Things changed with just a couple of laps to go when White suffered a puncture and had to make his way around the entire circuit before he could pit for a new wheel. With White at the back of the field after his misfortune, Neveling was not challenged on his way to victory. Silvio Scribante claimed second ahead of Letlaka, who was less than a second ahead of GT3 winner du Toit. Aldo Scribante was again fifth, with White in sixth after Arangies suffered electronic problems in his Porsche and was forced into retirement in the early stages.

Neveling claimed the Class A+ overall winners trophy ahead of Silvio Scribante and Letlaka. GT3 honours went to du Toit, with Class A going to Arangies.

Neveling now leads the overall championship standings by three points from du Toit, with White 14 points further back in third.

The Extreme SuperCars, driven by Dunlop competitors, will remain at the coast for the next round of their championship. They will now head to Cape Town’s Killarney International Raceway on September 20 and 21 for Round 7, the penultimate round of the 2024 season.
