Many of South Africa’s fastest racing cars will visit Killarney International Raceway on 15 and 16 March for the second round of the 2024 Extreme SuperCars driven by Dunlop championship.
When the series last travelled to the Cape Town circuit, Stuart White (Into Africa Racing / Sparco / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan) romped to three victories after his closest rival, Franco Scribante (Scribante Racing Porsche 997), suffered a mechanical failure that ended his race weekend after he set the second fastest time in qualifying. The pair will resume their rivalry at the head of the field this weekend. While White and Scribante are the likely front runners based on previous outings at Killarney, they are unlikely to have things all their own way.
Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO) won the opening heat at the first round of the championship and pushed Franco Scribante all the way to the flag in the second heat to lead the overall and GT Sprint championships. Silvio Scribante (Cemza & Scribante Concrete Lamborghini Huracan) and Gianni Giannoccaro (Stradale Motorsport / BISC Transport Nismo GTR GT3) lie second and third. Arnold Neveling, who drove a Porsche in the opening round, has entered the GOSCOR Lift Trucks / Stradale Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 and should also be close to the front of the field, as should Aldo Scribante (Scribante Concrete Lamborghini Huracan).
Others in the GT3 class include local man Dayne Angel (Autohaus Angel Ferrari 488 GT3) and the Bigfoot Express Freight Mercedes Benz AMG Gt3s of Sun Moodley and Andrew Culbert. Class A+ will feature Dawie Joubert (Lotus Exige) and Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Racing / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan).
Slightly slower but no less competitive, the Class A battle will be between Kris Budnick (Bucketlist racing Dodge Viper), Ricky Giannoccaro (G&H Transport / ITRE Cugini Logistics Lamborghini Huracan), and defending champion Charl Arangies, who will drive the Stradale Motorsport Lamborghini Gallardo GT3.
Ant Blunden (SAJCO / GSP CV Joints Porsche 991 GT3 Cup) will compete in Class B, while Jimmy Giannoccaro will give his newly acquired G&H Transport Audi GT4 its first outing in Class D.
Class D is the battle of the BMWs. Mike Verrier (NDT Racing BMW Z4), Marco Retter (Progress Precision Engineering BMW E46), Uli Sanne (BMW Z4) and Renzo Torrente (AMT Chiptuning BMW M4) will fight it out for class honours.
Friday’s practice sessions will be used to fine-tune the cars for the serious action of the weekend, which gets underway with a qualifying session at 09h10 on Saturday. The first of the three scheduled 10-lap races will get underway at 12h30. Race 2 should get underway at 14h55, with the final outing at 16h45.
All three races will be livestreamed on the Extreme SuperCars driven by Dunlop Facebook page and the 2WheelsTV YouTube Channel.
