Stuart White (Into Africa Racing / Sparco / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan) had a perfect weekend at the third round of the 2024 Extreme SuperCars Driven by Dunlop championship held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit from 11 to 13 April. The young driver followed up pole position with two race wins and set the fastest race lap time of the weekend in the process.
White dominated both practice sessions before going on to claim pole position for the opening race from Franco Scribante (Scribante Racing Porsche 997). Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO), in third place on the grid, led the GT3 class ahead of Silvio Scribante (Cemza & Scribante Concrete Lamborghini Huracan). Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Racing / Wurth SA Lamborghini Huracan) and Aldo Scribante (Scribante Concrete Lamborghini Huracan), in their Class A+ cars, rounded out the top six. Kris Budnick (Bucketlist racing Dodge Viper) was the leading Class A car in seventh, ahead of Gianni Giannoccaro (Stradale Motorsport / BISC Transport Nismo GTR GT3). Ricky Giannoccaro, out for the first time in his newly acquired G&H Transport McLaren, and leading Class B competitor Damian Hammond (Sambane Private Game Lodge Lamborghini Gallardo) rounded out the top ten.
In the opening heat, the incredible straight-line speed of the Scribante Porsche allowed Franco to grab the lead from White. While the Lamborghini had better handling and was able to close up through the tighter sections of the circuit, it took White a couple of laps before he was able to make a decisive pass and take the lead. Once in front, White could pull away and set the race’s fastest lap time on his final tour. Franco Scribante had to settle for second. Behind the leading duo, Jonathan du Toit led the GT3 battle. He initially had Silvio Scribante keeping him honest, but Scribante’s Lambo suffered a failure and spun into retirement at the bottom of the mineshaft with a couple of laps to go. This promoted Letlaka to fourth and Arnold Neveling (Bobcat powered by Goscor Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO), who started the race down in 15th after experiencing electrical problems in qualifying, to fifth and second in GT3, positions they held until the flag.
Budnick brought the V10 Viper home in sixth place on the road to take the Class A win ahead of Gianni Giannoccaro and Aldo Scribante. Ricky Giannoccaro and Marius Jackson (MJR Motorsport Audi R8 LMS) rounded out the top ten. Hammond crossed the line in eleventh, taking the Class B victory ahead of Mark du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Ferrari F430), who crossed the line a couple of second behind him. Ant Blunden (SAJCO / GPS CV Joints Porsche GT3 Cup) claimed Class C ahead of Jimmy Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Audi R8 GT4 LMS).
The second race was a repeat of the first up front, with Franco Scribante grabbing the early lead from White. White again took a couple of laps to make his move to the front and was then able to slowly open the gap to take his second win of the day. Scribante again came home in second ahead of Jonathan du Toit. Neveling’s fourth place on the road gave him the runner-up spot in the GT3 class behind du Toit. Letlaka had a slightly lonely run to fifth ahead of Class A winner Budnick. Silvio Scribante crossed the line in seventh ahead of other Aldo. Gianni Gainnoccaro and Class B winner Hammond rounded out the top ten. A bit further back, Blunden claimed another Class C win.
In the day’s overall standings, based on the combined time of the two heats, White took the Class A+ win from Franco Scribante, with Letlaka in third. GT3 honours went du Toit with Neveling and Gianni Giannoccaro in second and third. Budnick topped Class A ahead of Ricky Giannoccaro, while Hammond led the way in Class B ahead of Mark du Toit and Roy Obery (Haval Edenvale Porsche 997). Blunden took Class C from Jimmy Giannoccaro.
The Extreme SuperCars driven by Dunlop competitors, now head for Zwartkops Raceway, west of Pretoria, on 17 and 18 May for the fourth round of their 2024 championship.
