After a trip to East London for their last round, the G&H Transport Extreme Supercars return inland for the fifth round of their 2019 championship, which will take place at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 27 July.
Last time out Charl Arangies completely dominated proceedings in his Stradale Motorsport McLaren 12C GT3 after his main rival, Franco Scribante (Porsche 997 Turbo), suffered mechanical problems. They will resume their battle at Zwartkops.
Others who could run close to the front of the field include Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Ferrari F430), Elwyn Steenkamp (JEYS Consultants BMW M3), who didn’t have a great day last time the series visited Zwartkops, and Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Lamborghini 560). Franco Di Matteo (Deltec Batteries Alfa GT) has shown his car is quick, but reliability is sometimes a problem while Peter Zeelie (Zeelie Auditors Toyota MR2) has also shown the speed necessary to run close to the front.
Ant Blunden (SAJCC Porsche 997 GT3) leads the championship standings in Class B. He is likely to face competition from Rick Lourerio (Combined Racing BMW 335) and Derek Hitchcock (Lotus Exige) with Ben Morgenrood (Ben Morgenrood Toyota Lexus) also scheduled to make an appearance. Silvio and Aldo Scribante have indicated that they may make the trip up from the Eastern Cape with their Scribante Construction Audi A4s.
Jimmy Giannoccaro will be out in the G&H Transport Lamborghini normally piloted by son Ricky who is still not fit to drive his car. His chief rivals are likely to be Wynand van der Merwe (Sandton Dental Porsche 911 GT3) and Johan de Bruyn (Odorcure Porsche GT3 Cup).
Class D and overall championship leader Roy Obery (Haval Edenvale Porsche 996 GT3) will have to work for his points on Saturday. Len-Henry Gobey has been getting quicker in each outing as he develops his G&H Transport BMW Z4M and Marius Jackson will be out in his newly acquired Mega Fibre Audi R8 LMS GT4. Xolile Letlaka (Into Africa Mining Ferrari 360) made his debut in East London and will certainly make a step forward at Zwartkops. Anmar Coetzee (A&M Plumbing BMW M3)
Friday’s practice sessions will give the drivers a chance to set up their cars before they head out for qualifying at 08h45 on Saturday morning. The first of three 10-lap races is scheduled for 11h15 with the next two at 14h20 and 15h45.
