Third place in the opening heat, followed by a hard-fought victory in the second, was enough to give Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO) the overall and GT3 class victories at the second round of the 2025 Extreme Supercars driven by Dunlop championship, held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit between 10 and 12 April. Ryan Naicker (Mercedes AMG GT3) and Class A winner Damian Hammond (Liqui Moly Lamborghini Super Trofeo) joined him on the overall podium.

In Friday afternoon’s qualifying session, championship leader Brad Liebenberg (TurnMeOn / Sparco Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO) grabbed pole position from Naicker and du Toit. Kris Budnick (Bucketlist Composites Dodge Viper), the first of the Class A competitors, qualified in fourth place. The third row was filled by Damian Hammond and Gianni Giannoccaro (G&H Transport McLaren MP4-12C), with Paul Hill (Kalex Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO) and Marius Jackson (MJR Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3) just over a tenth apart on the fourth row of the grid. Sam Hammond (Lamborghini Super Trofeo) and Uli Sanne (G&H Transport BMW Z4) occupied ninth and tenth places, ahead of Ant Blunden (G&H Racing / SAJCO Audi R8) and Jimmy Giannoccaro (G&H Racing Porsche). Ricky Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Mercedes AMG) and Stefan Snyders (BMW M3) did not set a time in the qualifying session and lined up at the back of the grid. In the battle of the Audis, Hill got the better of Jackson to claim sixth place with Ricky Giannoccaro in eighth. Sam Hammond, the sole Class B runner after Blunden did not make the start, crossed the line in ninth ahead of the Class C duel between Sanne and Jimmy Giannoccaro.

By virtue of setting the fastest lap in the opening heat, Naicker led the field away from pole position in the second heat, but du Toit wasn’t letting the youngster have things his own way and grabbed the lead on the opening lap. Liebenberg followed, and he and du Toit pulled away from the rest of the field with du Toit doing everything he could to keep the Audi behind him. When the flag came out, du Toit was in front, the pair separated by just a couple of car lengths, but Liebenberg was later excluded for a technical infringement, which promoted Naicker to the runners-up spot. Budnick got the better of Damian Hammond to take third place and the Class A win, with Hill and Ricky Giannoccaro in fifth and sixth. Sam Hammond, in seventh, took another Class B win ahead of Sanne, who bagged Class C honours. Jackson and Blunden, in ninth and tenth, rounded out the classified finishers.

In the day’s class standings, du Toit took GT3 honours from Naiker and Liebenberg. Class A went to Damian Hammond with Budnick, despite his problems at the start of the first heat, in second ahead of Hill. Sam Hammond took Class B from Blunden, while Sanne topped Class C ahead of Jimmy Giannoccaro.
The Extreme Supercars, driven by Dunlop, make their way to Zwartkops Raceway in Pretoria for the third round of the 2025 championship, which will take place on 20 and 21 June.
